So, what is modular design anyway?
Depending on the field, a module (from the latin modulus) can mean different things. If we focus on geometry and design, it refers to a unit of measurement that repeats and combines itself to assemble different structures or architectural volumes.

A well known example of this is the measurements of the japanese tatami , habitually used as a unit of measurement repeated in the whole design project.

Today we selected five projects that presented modular relations amongst the parts of the design. Even though we can’t go  there in person and measure everything with a ruler, if you pay enough attention the modules are there, can you find them?

From a room based in the measurements of the tatami, to a whole hotel built in cubic modules to preserve an unexpected find of ruins, all of these designs present exceptional taste and sophistication.
