It was at the 1992 Earth Summit that Canada’s International Centre for Ocean Development and the Ocean Institute of Canada announced the first World Oceans Day. Since then, both organizations have rallied for the health of our oceanic networks, which sustain marine life and land mammals, including humans, who depend on the ocean for food and, of course, water.

Covering over 40,000 miles of the planet’s surface, the ocean is essential to our survival.
