Timber panelling has had somewhat of a rebirth recently; a design component previously admired in grade-listed buildings is now well-utilised in hospitality projects the world over.

Ever ahead of the curve, hotel specifiers often play with materiality and form to infuse elements of old-world opulence into schemes fit for the contemporary traveller. The result being honey-hued spa cocoons in Washington DC and 1930s-inspired lobbies in the Netherlands’ canal capital.

This week’s lineup consists of five projects that invoke a full range of emotions, from dark and sultry lounges to light and bright entrance halls. Without further ado, here are a handful of wood-panelled paradises from across the globe…

01 | Eaton Hotel Washington DC, USA.

02 | Estelle Manor, UK.

03 | Renaissance Downtown Dubai, UAE.

04 | Park Centraal Amsterdam, Netherlands.

05 | Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel, Ireland.
