HITTING THE BAKES...

FIVE ON FRIDAY

For this week’s instalment of the Five on Friday series, we’re paying a visit to a somewhat niche area of hospitality design; one that not every hotel possesses but one that every hotel should have. That is, of course, an in-house delicatessen: serving sugar-loaded sweet treats and freshly prepared savoury bites daily.

Separate from the onsite restaurant facilities, these zones, perhaps, cater more towards the on-the-go traveller than guests operating at a slower pace, thanks to expert floor planning and convenient street-side accessibility. Subsequently, holidaymakers with action-packed itineraries are able to grab a quick breakfast before heading out for the day, whereas those with a little more time can enjoy a casual dining experience by the counter.

These five examples of delicatessen design are not only impressive standalone schemes but are configured to make artisanal sandwiches and perfectly laminated pastries the centre of our attention…
