Terrazzo is a composite material, poured in-site or pre-fabricated in the form of tiles made of marble chips. granite quartz, glass, shell pieces, or other similar materials. This has been around since mid-15th century when Venetian mosaic workers discovered a way to re-use marble remnants. After that, it became a matter of perfecting the leveling technique with different polishing methods.
Not only does it open the door to infinite unique colour, scale and material combinations, but it also offers the chance to re-use waste materials. How great is that?
This results in an unrepeatable pattern that can last for decades, handing designs an individual (sometimes even historical) treasure.
Today we bring to you five designs that brought this material to the main stage. There’s murals that accompany the material to perfection, bright bathrooms where terrazzo is the protagonist and interiors where different types of stone dialogue amongst each other in different shapes and forms.
