The atrium, historically known as a key feature in ancient roman houses , would provide ventilation and light, becoming a very effective architectural layout.
As time went by, these are now not only used for those reasons but also to provide a sense of spaciousness, apart from the natural light. Something that is very attractive about them is that they protect visitors from the natural elements while being able to maintain a link with the surrounding environment.
This week we selected five projects with a wide varierty and styles of atriums that used this resource in highly delicate, sophisticated and creative ways.
It’s surprising to see how much these can vary in atmosphere and vibe; from an exposed brick-walled shared area with interiors inspired by the concept of “weaving”, to polished restorations of unique architectures and modern curvy atriums.
