Choosing a monochromatic colour palette may be a minimalist approach to colour but it shines light upon every single other design component. Reducing the spectrum of a color scheme does not mean easiness.
Its a true challenge to be able to create interesting visual and spacial experiences when one of the elements is simplified. Space, line, forms, light, texture and pattern become protagonists; when used creatively, these transform good layouts into great ones.
This week’s selection of projects exceeded our expectations.
The W Bellevue for its perfectly placed blue pops of colour and dynamic geometric ceiling optic patterns. Le Meridien Zhongshan for its perfectly placed artworks and careful attention to overall proportions of light and darkness. The W Washington D.C. for its brilliantly chosen lighting installations that reflect on the refracting surfaces that surround it creating a compelling depth to the design. The St.Jane Chicago for its wonderful black and white geometric flooring that goes perfectly with the bold pops of red hues. Last but not least, the Grosvenor House Suites by Jumeirah Living for its elegant and sophisticated monochromatic ambiance created by the flawless balance of contrasting light and dark forms.
