Top 5 Urban Hotels in Asia

When travelling to an unknown city, the first impression of the guest is how different their urban areas feel in relation to their home town.

Urban hotels face the challenge to make those visitors feel welcome and comfortable but also show them the true essence of the area.
Today’s selection of design projects were chosen for their authentic dialogues with the city.

The Shiroiya Hotel for its undeniably creative and almost surreal hillock, as well as its deep interconnection with contemporary art and local history.

The Hoshinoya Tokyo for its surprising creation of a front-door modern park and its beautiful intricate facade.

The Toggle Hotel for its inside-out truly urban and brilliant design concept that dialogues with the idea that visitors can be  “on/off” the hotel; for either work or for leisure.

The Capella Shanghai Jian Ye Li for its delicate and mindful transformation of a “shikumen” complex that tastefully modernises the building while keeping the original architecture intact.

The General Kyoto for its creation of calm and sophisticated patios and spaces that open a quiet, slow and intimate atmosphere in a very fast city.
